Bought my first mountainbike in 1990 (a Cycle Pro) and started competing the year after.
I was hopelessly last but still enjoyed riding thru the woods so much I continued until this day.
Thru the years I’ve broken all my ribs and my left arm. I’ve busted my left knee open, lost two teeth, crushed a finger and had two bikes stolen. I’ve raced from Riksgränsen down to Rombaksfjorden, trained with English Marines in Spain and done the 300 km of Vätternrundan in 9 hours.
I’ve had my latest bike for 11 years. It’s a Litespeed Tanasi 2000 Hardtail. Cykel City in Gothenburg built it after my specifications.
The titanium frame was handmade in the US according to my measurements. The tubes are from Swedish Sandviken, best in the world on titanium tubes.
Since I was building a durable bike this time and not aiming to make a super-light bike, all the components where XTR from Shimano.
The disc-brakes, a novelty at that time, came from Hope – braided hoses, DOT 5 oil, EBC brake pads – the works.
SID Race front suspension fork from Rock Shoxs, wheels from Mavic and for some reason I chose to continue with the suspension fork’s blue colour for the saddle, tires and SPD-pedals from Ritchey.
I’ve continued to compete, mainly in long mountainbike races and the Vätternrundan, even during the years I worked as a bike messenger and was sick as hell of bikes.
